Welcome to Ponce Inlet
With
its festive atmosphere, hard packed sand and moderate surf, anenjoyable
experience will be had by all at Ponce Inlet. In addition to swimming
and sunbathing, nearby Lighthouse Point Park offers nature trails,
an observation tower and picnic areas. Fishing along the beach or
in Ponce Inlet will delight the fisherman, and the numerous small
shops in the area make a pleasant diversion. There are volleyball
nets set up in several areas of the beach for public use.
Located
in the small town of Ponce Inlet, The Ponce de Leon Inlet lighthouse
gives the feel of stepping back in time to the 1800's. The 175 foot
tall structure, completed in 1887, took three years to build and
was considered to be the most beautiful in Florida. The lighthouse
served faithfully for 80 years until the Coast Guard abandoned it
in 1970. The Town of Ponce Inlet rescued the lighthouse and converted
it into a wonderful museum. Climbing the tower is well worth the
energy, as the view from the top is spectacular. The lighthouse
is open every day except Christmas from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
