daytona area beachesLocated in the small town of Ponce Inlet, The Ponce de Leon Inlet lighthouse gives the feel of stepping back in time to the 1800's. The 175 foot tall structure, completed in 1887, took three years to build and was considered to be the most beautiful in Florida. The lighthouse served faithfully for 80 years until the Coast Guard abandoned it in 1970. The Town of Ponce Inlet rescued the lighthouse and converted it into a wonderful museum. Climbing the tower is well worth the energy, as the view from the top is spectacular. The lighthouse is open every day except Christmas from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
